When The Exorcist hit theatres in 1973, it created a sensation beyond anyone's comprehension; a tide of reactions so extreme, they barely seem believable today. Frequently cited as the best horror movie of all time, and widely regarded as one of the most shocking and controversial events ever to meet the big screen; it’s hard to deny the cultural, social and historical influence The Exorcist has had. 

In this four part video essay series, I explore the various factors that contributed to the film’s enormous legacy, ranging from its artistic prowess, social-political implications and the many controversies surrounding the film and its release.
